Eight Values of Free Expression

The first amendment is one of the most important amendments in the constitution. The first amendment states that the government can not make a law affecting the establishment of a religion, prohibiting practice of religion, prohibit the practice of free speech, the right to assemble, and the right to petition.

The First Amendment can also be separated into eight values of Free Expression. They are,

1. Discovery of Truth

2. Participation in Self-Government

3. Stable Changes

4. Individual Self-Fulfillment

5. Check on Government Power

6. Promote Tolerance

7. Promote Innovation

8. Protect Dissent

Each one is an important factor to making the first amendment what it is. Every person might believe that they can relate to one value more than another. For me I feel that the value of promoting innovation relates to what I do the most. I am an Electronic Media Production major, so i am making lots of videos that are being uploaded on YouTube and other social media platforms. For me having the right to promote innovation, allows me to create and upload videos as much as I like without government interference. This is how this relates to me best for others the value of promoting innovation might be executed in different ways. For example, people might make art, write a film or play, or design clothing. Then the other seven values could relate to so many different ways and some people might feel that they can relate to more than one
