US Supreme Court

Court cases occur everyday. Each one for a different reason. Most cases take place in a state court but every now and again you can find a case that arises in the United States Supreme Court, which is the most powerful judicial body in the world. The Supreme Court operates by following the constitution but at the same time relying on the faith of the people.

Supreme Court justices are appointed by the President. It is often that a Supreme Court Justice will stay in power after the President that appointed them leaves office. They are often called together to deem whether the President, Congress or the States are operating constitutionally.

John Marshall was the first Supreme Court Justice ever appointed by the President. While he was a Justice he left a major mark on our country and till this day a quote of his from the Marbury v. Madison court case still stands in the court, and it reads "It is empathetically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is." During his years as a Supreme Court Justice he help the community make the Supreme Court an equal piece of the US Government.

To help make sure the public is involved in cases that take place in the Supreme Court all cases are heard publicly, with lawyers from each side defending their clients.

The Supreme Court makes decisions every day that help make our country run more smoothly, helping every single person in the United States.
